Zurich Integrative Rodent Physiology (ZIRP)

Originally founded in 2006 by the ZIHP as a “core facility for rodent physiology” the facility has been re-organised in 2011 and is now part of the Institute of Physiology, During this re-organisation it has been also re-named into Zurich Integrative Rodent Physiology (ZIRP) and a steering committee has been formed 

The ZIRP combines a housing facility for small rodents with dedicated service platforms (imaging, laboratory analysis, telemetry, surgical services) as well as various equipment for the analysis of small rodents’ physiology. Besides these platforms the ZIRP offers a range of smaller equipment summarized under metabolism & oxygen

Most of the ZIRP equipment can be either used in collaboration with a ZIRP staff member or self supported after an introductive training by a ZIRP staff member.

Besides its equipment the ZIRP offers various techniques and services ranging from singular interventions up to the takeover of complex study parts. ZIRP staff member provide veterinary and technical support to establish and run experiments. ZIRP staff members can to take over the execution of complete study parts or routine work on mutual agreement, e.g. metabolic cage phases, blood sampling, specific controls.
