Irradiation

The X-RAD SmART (Precision X-Ray) is a state-of-the-art small animal radiation therapy research platform with cone-beam CT (CBCT) guidance and bioluminescence tomography in a single, self-shielded unit. To allow for image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT), a rotating gantry and a three-axis computer-controlled animal couch are used along with an automated stage correction during irradiation. Both fixed field and dynamic arc (0°to 360°) dose delivery modes are available along with a set of interchangeable collimators of different sizes (from circular 3 mm to rectangular 40 mm x 40 mm).

A dedicated treatment planning software (SmART-ATP) offers the possibility to quickly design complex treatment plans based on the planning CT, with an additional possibility to combine with other imaging modalities (MRI, PET, bioluminescence).
